Toyota Recognized for Saving the Environment

In this day and age, saving the environment is on the mind of many consumers all around the world.  While out shopping for products that range from smaller items, such as food, all the way up to bigger items, such as homes and cars, an ever-increasing group of consumers have our planet’s well being influencing their purchases.  But did you know that there are companies out there that have taken on the responsibility of saving the environment as well?  And that one such company is none other than Toyota?

That’s right my fellow green friends, Toyota is committed to preserving our precious environment while producing vehicles, like the Toyota Rav4, Palatine and other Northwest Chicago Suburban drivers can be proud to own.  In fact, Toyota has even been recognized by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency, also known as EPA.  During a special ceremony, in Washington D.C, on April 12, 2011, the EPA presented Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. (TEMA) with its 2011 highest honor, The ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award.

Graciously accepting this award, Robin Haugen, TEMA’s production engineering General Manager said,

“It is thanks to our team members’ daily efforts that we are able to reduce our carbon footprint with every vehicle that rolls off our manufacturing lines year after year.”

This particular year, TEMA has been recognized for quite a few energy improvements at several of its manufacturing facilities.  For example, since 2002, TEMA has reduced total energy use by 13 percent per each vehicle it produced while at the same time adding new facilities.  Ever since 2001, TEMA has also reduced total water usage by a substantial 18 percent per vehicle produced.  To some, these numbers may not mean anything, but to others, especially those of the like of EPA, they translate into an enormous CO2 reduction of about 150,000 metric tons!

In Northwest Chicago Suburbs, like Palatine, Camry hybrid drivers who care for the environment should be thrilled with this news!  However, they may want to jump for joy when they find out that the 2011 Energy STAR Sustained Excellence Award is actually TEMA’s seventh award from EPA.  For seven repeated years, TEMA has been proving their outstanding commitment to protecting the environment, and with that record we can only expect to see more awards like this for TEMA in the future.
