Toyota Prius outshines Chevy Volt

Recently, the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy, also known as ACEEE, released its annual report on the leanest greenest vehicles on today’s market.  The ratings to determine the winners were based on an ACEEE formula that included fuel-economy ratings, curb weight, emissions and other considerations.  And dealers of Palatine Toyota Prii couldn’t be more tickled green about the results.

For those of you who have never heard of the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy, here is a brief synopsis.  As per their website, they are a nonprofit organization that is extremely dedicated to advancing energy efficiency as a way of promoting economic prosperity, energy security, and environmental protection.  Founded back in 1980, the ACEEE means business when it comes to all things green!  They constantly conduct in depth research on several programs, such as transportation, and work hard to educate businesses and consumers as to their findings for the betterment of our planet Earth.

You see, on its annual list of environmentally friendly vehicles, our most prized hybrid, the Toyota Prius, made the top 10 greenest cars category.  Several drivers of Palatine used Prius hybrids, along with countless other Prius admirers, always knew that this Toyota hybrid was an extremely green car, but seeing it on the list just made everyone realize how especially environmentally conscious this car really is.  Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the Chevrolet Volt.

The news that the Chevy Volt did not make the top 10 greenest cars category on the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy’s Annual List of Environmentally Friendly Vehicles most likely came as a total shock to Chevy Volt fans.  They were probably thinking how could this be because the Chevy Volt was named the 2011 North American Car of the Year back in January of 2011.  It seems all the anticipation and hoopla that surrounded the debut of the green Chevy Volt was just that; hyped up hoopla.  For in the end, the electrically powered Volt is simply not as green as it originally anticipated being and stands no chance next to the Toyota Prius when it comes to being environmentally friendly.
