Prius Reliability Proven

We here at Schaumburg Toyota, your local Roselle Toyota dealer, have a question for all of you; what do the earth saving Toyota Prius and the Energizer Bunny have in common?  Well, they both keep going and going and going.  However, thanks to a recent study done by none other than the world renowned Consumer Reports, it appears that the Toyota Prius may indeed outlast the Energizer Bunny.

Before we go on to talk about the study, we would also like to mention the other common factor between the beauty of a Toyota Prius and the ultimate fluffiness of the Energizer Bunny if you haven’t guessed it already.  They both run on batteries.  And while the Energizer Bunny runs on none other than Energizer batteries, the Prius runs on a much different and highly expensive battery pack.

And for some, this particular battery pack that operates the Prius hybrid may have been a deterrent when it came down to purchasing this special Toyota because of unsubstantiated fears of a potential expensive replacement.  Well, with the help of new tests and owner surveys conducted by Consumer Reports, potential and current Toyota Prius owners do not have anything to worry about!

Recently, the highly knowledgeable engineers over at Consumer Reports tested a 2002 Toyota Prius with 207,000 miles it.  This nine-year-old Prius, old body style and original battery pack intact, went through the same series of rigorous performance and fuel economy tests that are administered to new cars.  When the results of the 2002 Prius were compared to an identical Prius that had been tested when it was new, the results were only ones Toyota could deliver; exceptional.  Overall, the 2002 Prius with 207,000 miles performed almost identically as a similar new model.  For example when looking at fuel economy, both in the city and on the highway, the model with 207,000 fell short by a miniscule two-tenths of a gallon.  And can you believe the aged Prius was able to go from zero to 60 in only 13 seconds?  When compared to the comparable new model, it was only less than half a second slower.  Because of this news, in the near future some Roselle Camry drivers may even be thinking about trading in their Camry for a Prius.
