Restoring Power With Toyota

Nobody likes when their power goes out.  It’s especially troublesome and dangerous in an emergency situation.  Thankfully Toyota engineers are on the case, adapting technology from Toyota fuel cell vehicles and battery systems from Toyota Hybrid vehicles for use storing or restoring power in a blackout.  The new 2014 Toyota Avalon Hybrid you’ve had your eye on at Schaumburg Toyota or the Toyota Fuel Cell Vehicle of the very near future can do more than just drive.

Think about the storms we experience every spring and summer: there’s lightning and thunder, high winds, torrential downpours of rain, and sometimes even hail.  It’s hot, it’s humid, it’s muggy, it’s dark — and then the power goes out and with it, your air conditioning.

Or think about the recent, extremely cold winter weather we’ve been experiencing around the area.  Losing power and heat can be even more dangerous in sub-freezing temperatures where frostbite and hypothermia can lead to severe injury or death.

Is these situations power outages may not be immediately life-threatening.  But when natural disasters occur and emergency personnel are unable to get power to help them provide assistance, losing power could mean loss of life.

The technology in Toyota fuel cell vehicles which will begin to be available starting in 2015 can be adapted, and Toyota engineers are currently developing methods to used fuel cell vehicles to provide power in an emergency.  A completely fueled fuel cell vehicle could light up a small house for several days or longer.   One day you may be able to use your Toyota Fuel Cell Vehicle from Schaumburg Toyota to turn your lights back on (and air conditioner or heater).

Toyota has also found a new use for the batteries found in Toyota Hybrid vehicles after they’re no longer used in vehicles.  The batteries are used to store and provide power to some Toyota dealerships.
