Toyota working to foster innovation in young people

As a child, what inspired you to grow into the person you are today?  Whether we care to share with the world or not, we all had experiences as children that shaped us into the person we are today.  Hopefully these experiences were positive ones and have helped us lead a life as a beneficial member of and contributor to society.  Regardless, there is no denying the fact that seemingly simple childhood experiences can end up helping an adult change the world.

Toyota Motor Corporation deeply understands this fact and thus, the company has been supporting programs that encourage children to get excited about science for twenty-one consecutive years.  The automaker understands that they need children to grow up wanting to engineer vehicles should their wealth of Toyota dealerships, like that of Roselle Toyota dealer, Schaumburg Toyota, continue to thrive.  Additionally, the automaker understands fostering a love for science is generally important for communities as well, such as Roselle.  Camry vehicles, a popular Toyota model, will soon need to run efficiently on a fuel source other than gasoline and some high school student currently studying an exciting chemistry program funded by Toyota just may be the person who can make such a change.

The Toyota-backed program is called TAPESTRY and to date has given more than $10 million to 1,200 teachers across the nation.  This year the program gave $10,000 grants to 50 US teachers or groups of teachers who submitted a grant proposal that showed creativity and risk-taking.  The grants will begin being issued and used as early as this summer.

Michael Rouse, Toyota’s vice president of philanthropy shares in our local Roselle Toyota dealer’s pride over Toyota’s goodwill.  He said, “It’s extremely rewarding to support exceptional teachers who bring quality science education to our children.  The Toyota TAPESTRY program was built on the vision of recognizing such teachers and supporting their efforts to improve science learning opportunities for children. … We’ve had the opportunity to turn that dream into reality.”
