Toyota Automaker’s Recycling Program Makes A Difference
One of the hopes and dreams that many people share is to make a difference. Of course that dream can take many forms, such as becoming a doctor and saving lives, or becoming a teacher and educating young minds, or becoming a scientist and discovering new and improved ways to recycle used items. Toyota not only builds excellent cars that we offer here at our Arlington Heights area Toyota dealership — they also make a difference by implementing programs that take old used parts like bumper covers and recycle them.
Toyota, the builder of our favorite cars here at Schaumburg Toyota, implemented the National Scrap Program in 2014, partnering with Boles Parts Supply (BPS). The program is meant to address the recycling requirements of the Toyota North American Parts Operation (NAPO). As part of the program BPS shreds old used parts and scrap parts into plastic pellets that can be used again in the production of new car parts.
In a little more than a year the program led to recycling of more than 40,000 pounds of various materials which were saved from landfills or incineration. The program was expanded further and through June 2015 the amount of recycled materials more than doubled to more than 88,000 pounds. The program may continue to expand as well.
According to Juliana Dee, the program’s manager at NAPO, “We’ve been enormously pleased with the success of this program… Thanks to our partner BPS, we are giving a second life to things that used to be trash and making a real improvement in our recycling rate.”
