Toyota Builds Vehicles In Record Numbers

Don’t worry, you’re not seeing things — there are more Toyota vehicles on the road than ever before.  Toyota built record numbers of vehicles and engines during 2013 — a total of 1,857,695 vehicles and 1,715,709 engines at the company’s North American vehicle and engine manufacturing plants, a five percent and three percent increase, respectively, compared to 2012 levels.

According to Osamu “Simon” Nagata, Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. President and CEO, “Production is a direct reflection of a growing market and our focus on building cars and trucks that exceed our customers’ expectations.”

Toyota increased capacity and added jobs at several of the company’s fourteen North American facilities, including the plant in Indiana which builds the popular new 2014 Toyota Highlander, which Palatine drivers can find here at Schaumburg Toyota.  During 2013 Toyota increased production of the 2014 Toyota Highlander by 50,000 vehicles to meet demand in domestic and growing export markets; in the company’s Kentucky facility that builds 4 cylinder engines, production was increased by greater than 100,000 units; the facility in Woodstock, Ontario that builds the 2014 Toyota RAV4 increased capacity by one-third to 200,000 vehicles.

Toyota has plans to continue increasing production in 2014.  The company expects to build an additional 15,000 Toyota Highlander models at the Indiana plant, build an additional 215,000 V6 engines at the company’s facility in Alabama, and add a new production line with a capacity of as many as 240,000 6-speed automatic transmission assemblies at the company’s plant in West Virginia.  In addition, Toyota expects to add an additional 4,000 jobs during 2014.
