Toyota Name Cleared

When it comes to the safety of all types of motor vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA, is the most reliable and sought after organization to get that information out to consumers.  That is why when our United States’ Congress was looking for an organization to conduct a thorough study on Toyota vehicles they called upon the NHTSA.  However, being as thorough as they are NHTSA decided to enlist a group of esteemed experts to help them conduct the study.  Engineers from NASA, yes, as in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration were going to work with the NHTSA.  The reason behind this is that the engineers at NASA are some of the top experts in the country with superior knowledge in areas such as computer-controlled electronic systems, electromagnetic interference, and software integrity.  Together, these two organizations were to conduct a ten-month study that would address public speculation regarding whether Toyota’s electronic systems or electromagnetic interference played a part in the incidents of unintentional acceleration. The long awaited results by many loyal Toyota brand consumers, including Chicago Toyota van drivers, are finally in.  On behalf of the study, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood stated that, “ We enlisted the best and brightest engineers to study Toyota’s electronic systems, and the verdict is in.  There is no electronic-based cause for unintended high speed acceleration in Toyota.” So what does this mean?  Well it means that there is no electronic cause of any dangerous acceleration in Toyota vehicles.  This also means that the original mechanical safety defects that were identified by the NHTSA of “sticking” accelerator pedals and accelerator pedals that became trapped by floor mats are the only true causes of unwanted acceleration incidents. Toyota gladly and humbly received these findings.  Steve St. Angelo, who is Toyota’s Chief Quality Officer for North America gave a statement, in which he said: “Toyota welcomes the findings of NASA and NHTSA regarding our Electronic Throttle Control System with intelligence (ETCS-I) and we appreciate the thoroughness of their review.  We believe this rigorous scientific analysis by some of America’s foremost engineers should further reinforce confidence in the safety of Toyota and Lexus vehicles.  We hope this important study will help put to rest unsupported speculation about Toyota’s ETCS-I, which is a well-designed and well-tested to ensure that a real world, un-commanded acceleration of the vehicle cannot occur.” Like many, we here at Schaumburg Toyota, have always had faith in our vehicles and the mastermind engineers at Toyota with their ability to provide safe and technologically advanced vehicles.  We are thrilled that others can now review the findings of the NHTSA and NASA study and once again be assured that Toyota truly stands for superior safety and quality.
