Toyota Minivan, Crossovers, Light Trucks Lead February Sales
Last month was an interesting month. If you recall last month, February 2016, was a leap month. We had an extra day to enjoy last month. Regardless of the extra day last month, however, it was a good month for Toyota — the automaker reported strong sales on the strength of its light truck division.
The 2016 Toyota RAV4 led the automaker’s light truck momentum last month with sales of 25,523 vehicles for a gain of 16.3 percent. The 2016 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck gained 14.5 percent on sales of 14,172 vehicles. The popular 2016 Toyota Highlander recorded sales of 12,466 vehicles, a 10.7 percent increase.
The automaker’s popular 2016 Toyota Sienna minivan also recorded strong sales last month with sales of 11,541 vehicles, a gain of 5.5 percent compared to the same month last year.
The automaker’s lineup of light trucks combined to record sales of 94,864 during February 2016, a gain of 9.7 percent compared to the same month last year. Toyota light trucks recorded sales of 154,345 vehicles on a year-to-date basis, a gain of 6.4 percent compared to the same month last year.
Overall Toyota reported sales of 164,864 vehicles last month for a gain of 4.7 percent compared to the same month last year.
“Light trucks continue to drive strong demand in 2016… The Toyota division had back-to-back, best-ever light truck monthly records, supported by another best-ever month in February for RAV4,” said Bill Fay, Group Vice President and General Manager of Toyota.
