Toyota Teams With Teen Vogue To Reduce Distracted Driving

April 12th, 2013 by
April is more than just a month that we all hope, often to no avail, the Chicagoland winter is officially over.  It is also officially Distracted Driving Awareness Month, which is something we all should take very seriously.  It also presents a great opportunity to shine a light on an issue that will not just go away on its own.  New research shows texting while driving and other distractions are commonplace among teen girls.  Vehicles, like the 2013 Toyota Prius, are more safe than ever, but all the new safety features can’t work if the driver is not paying attention.  For this reason, Schaumburg Toyota is proud that Toyota and Teen Vogue are partnering on a safe driving campaign to help educate and empower teenage girls.
Any parent knows that your teen getting behind the wheel of a car is always a scary thought, and these statistics do not make it any easier.  In 2010, seven teens between the ages of 16 and 19 died every day on average from motor vehicle injuries.  Nearly a third of teen girls read a text or email at least once every time they drive, and nearly a quarter respond at least once every time they drive.  There is no doubt these statistics are scary, but the good news is that, hopefully, with a campaign like this these things do not have to happen.  “Teen Vogue’s influential young readers are the perfect ambassadors not only to participate, but also to help build awareness and educate their peer groups on the importance of driver safety,” said Jason Wagenheim, Teen Vogue Vice President.  If you’re as excited as we are at the prospect of reducing unnecessary distracted driving go to teenvogue.com/arriveinstyle to learn more.
