What to Do When You Get a Flat

Schaumburg Toyota is the place to go for a wide inventory of new and pre-owned Toyota cars, trucks and SUVs. But we’re not just dedicated to putting you behind the wheel of a vehicle you love at the right price. We also want to make sure it’s safe and comfortable for years to come.
That’s why our expert service team is offering the information you need to feel confident changing your tire in the event of a flat. You’ll want to start by getting the car and yourself to a safe place and securing it with the parking or emergency brake. It’s also a good idea to put the tires on the other side of your flat. Grab your jack, spare tire, tools and owner’s manual.
Now you’ll want to loosen the lug nuts, but don’t remove them completely. Use your owner’s manual to find the right jack points and slowly begin to lift your car. Remember, you never want to place the jack on an axel or the suspension. Remove the lug nuts and store them carefully then remove and replace the tire.
Put your spare tire onto the vehicle and replace the lug nuts, but do not tighten all the way. Your manual will recommend the proper tightening sequence. Now lower the vehicle and finish tightening the lug nuts completely.
Many spare tires are intended just for emergencies and not long term driving. That’s why you’ll want to bring your vehicle down to our Toyota service center to make sure your vehicle is safe and reliable, no matter what the open road may bring. Don’t wait—visit us at 875 West Golf Road in Schaumburg to get the car care you deserve today.
